Where is Discovery Theatre Lab?

Discovery Theatre Lab is a theatre program based in Gresham, Oregon. Because the company currently has no physical building to call its own, Discovery productions and activities take place at various locations in the area.

What sort of theatre is Discovery all about?

The company’s name, Discovery Theatre Lab, reflects the ambition that the company be a laboratory for actors and artists to experiment with their work, offering challenges and chances for growth. With this in mind, Discovery Theatre Lab’s goal is to create intense theatre on an intimate scale. The original inspiration for creating Discovery Theatre Lab came from classical playwrights, like Shakespeare and Euripides. However Discovery produces both classic and contemporary plays, as well as adaptations from literature and mythology.

Does Discovery Theatre Lab work with a yearly scheduled season?

The short answer is no. So far, Discovery’s body-of-work has grown one project at a time, each idea hatched and announced as we’ve gone along. However, with plans for moving into its own space, Discovery may convert to an annual season structure.

Does Discovery Theatre Lab offer any classes?

Our educational/training program for actors is being organized, and is intended to open Fall 2008.

How can I get tickets?

Tickets to Discovery Theatre Lab’s plays are bought and sold at the door, on a first come first served basis. Tickets may be purchased with cash, or checks only. We are looking to implement advance-purchases and credit card orders in the near future as well.

How do I get involved with Discovery as a volunteer?

It takes a lot of people and a lot of energy to put just one play on stage. There are numerous opportunities to help the effort. They range in time commitment and intensity from something as simple as sweeping the stage before a performance, to joining the Board of Directors, in which people agree to a one year term or commitment.
